StudentI Know My Major
I know my major.
Transferring may seem simple at first glance. After all, isn’t a major the same regardless of where you attend? Unfortunately, the answer is no.

Each college and university develops its own curriculum and degree requirements. For this reason, make sure you are aware of the degree requirements both at your current institution and at the college or university where you plan to transfer. Doing your homework now will eliminate the need to repeat courses later.

Follow these steps before you register:

Step 1: Schedule an appointment with a transfer advisor and discuss the course requirements for the major at your current college and at the institution where you plan to transfer.

For additional assistance, consider these resources:
Step 2: Consider taking courses listed on the Transfer Credit Framework .  Students who successfully complete 30 credits from the approved Framework categories may transfer to any of the participating colleges and universities and have those credits counted towards graduation. Certain majors have specific requirements prescribed by external agencies. It is your responsibility to work with an advisor to select appropriate courses as they relate to your chosen major.

Step 3: Check the Transfer Equivalency List to search for courses that are required in both programs. From the database, you’ll learn how courses transfer to participating institutions and how transfer policies apply to your program of study.

Step 4: After you understand how courses will transfer, register.

Step 5: After you complete your semester’s coursework, create a Course History in PA TRAC.

To learn how courses you have already taken transfer to Participating Institutions, create an Equivalency Map.

Transfer Tip: It is important to remember that each transfer institution makes the final determination of how many and which credits transfer. Credits that transferred to a previous institution may or may not transfer and count toward a degree at another institution. The only way to know for sure is to ask your academic counselor or advisor and get it in writing.
